George Barris' Original 1966 BATMAN TV SHow BATMOBILE Going Up For Auction!!

POW! BAM! ZOOM! THE Original 1966 BATMAN TV Show Batmobile Owned By George Barris To Cross AUCTION Block at Barrett-Jackson! Yes, the
Holy Grail of TV Star Cars to be Sold for First Time January 19, 2013!!

Scottsdale, Ariz. – (November 29, 2012) – Barrett-Jackson, the World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, announced today that it will offer one of the most recognized and popular pieces of entertainment history worldwide, at its 42nd annual Scottsdale auction in January – the only 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car which was heavily modified by legendary customizer George Barris to become the original 1966 Batmobile in the live action TV series Batman, as well as the movie adaptation, starring Adam West. The car will cross the block alongside Barrett-Jackson’s 5000 Series on Saturday, January 19th from 5:00pm – 9:00pm.

Still as striking as when it first came out of the paint shop, the original Batmobile has been a part of Barris’ personal collection since he first bought it from the Ford Motor Company for a dollar in 1965. Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction will mark the first time the car has gone up for sale since then.

Bringing the Batmobile to Life:

The original one-off 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car was originally created by Ford Motor Company and a design team at the Lincoln Styling Department. The 19-foot long, two-seat, bubble-topped grand touring car prototype was entirely hand-built in 1954 by Ghia Body Works in Turin, Italy, and unveiled in its original pearlescent Frost-Blue white paint finish in 1955 at the Chicago Auto Show.

The car featured instruments housed in the steering wheel, as well as a push-button transmission, exterior microphones to pick up and transmit the sounds of traffic to the occupants inside, and a host of other innovative devices. According to several reports, it was described as a "rolling laboratory" from which Ford would learn about new technology to apply to their production automobiles. In 1959, sporting a fresh red paint job, the Futura was featured in the film, It Started with a Kiss, starring Debbie Reynolds and Glenn Ford.

Barris then acquired the vehicle and kept it in his garage for several years. In late 1965, 20th Century Fox Television and William Dozier's Greenway Productions contacted Barris and asked him to produce a Batmobile for the upcoming TV series. With only 15 days and $15,000 budget to build a Batmobile, Barris decided to transform the Lincoln Futura concept car into what is now widely recognized as the original and iconic crime-fighting vehicle.

“The 1966 Batmobile by George Barris is one of the most famous Hollywood cars in history and it has become a true icon that has been carried from generation to generation of Batmobiles to follow,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “This vehicle not only marks the significant Bat logo that sits on the middle of its door, but a time in television history where they defied the odds of making a car the real star of the show. It revolutionized an entire industry that followed in its footsteps and we couldn’t be prouder to have it cross our block in Scottsdale as it goes up for sale for the very first time.”

The car features a 390-in 1956 Lincoln V-8 engine and a B&M Hydro Automatic transmission. Gadgets include a nose-mounted aluminum Cable Cutter Blade, Bat Ray Projector, Anti-Theft Device, Detect-a-scope, Batscope, Bat Eye Switch, Antenna Activator, Police Band Cut-In Switch, Automatic Tire Inflation Device, Remote Batcomputer, the Batphone, Emergency Bat Turn Lever, Anti-Fire Activator, Bat Smoke, Bat Photoscope, and many other Bat gadgets. If needed, the Batmobile was capable of a quick 180° "bat-turn" thanks to two rear-mounted ten-foot Deist parachutes.

In addition to being featured on various television/movie sets, the original Batmobile has been exhibited at numerous car shows and museums around the nation. The car is also exclusively featured in Christopher Nolan's Batmobile Documentary, which can be viewed as a bonus feature on The Dark Knight Rises DVD. It will go up for auction along with memorabilia and documentation from Barris’ personal archives.

“There are only a few things in life that are able to capture the soul of an era and the Batmobile by George Barris did exactly that,” said Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. “There are the real fans that will strongly advocate, till this day, that coming home to watch the Batmobile soar out of the Batcave defines a lot of their first childhood memories. Whether you're a car collector, entertainment enthusiast, or an average Joe looking to buy his dream car, you’re going to want to witness history being made in January with the sale of this car.”

FATHEAD Launches BATMAN ARKHAM CITY (Video Game) Wall Mural Stickers!

OK, are these things called "stickers" or "decals"? Well, anyway, they're extremely cool no matter what they're called, ha! Here at the Bat-Blog we have mentioned the FATHEAD Company before. They create these extremely high-quality stickers that are super giant-sized and you can use them to decorate any room of the house. They're a very interesting product. In the past their BATMAN Wall Decals have been sort of related to the "Comic Books by DC Comics" and "The Dark Knight Movies". Well, now they have also added "Video Game" characters too!

Yes, shown here are some wall decals they have made to celebrate BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY! The thing for me to explain here is that they make ones of individual characters that are really really BIG and then they also come with a bunch of smaller medium-sized stickers. Most of the photos here show them in detail except for the one of the Joker, but he comes with extras as well. Speaking of "Batman Villains", they also have huge individual ones of Harley Quinn and Catwoman. Plus, one of Batman and Catwoman together ( actually, the 1st photo shown ).

Then, after the large character ones they also make a set of smaller ones that include a bunch of characters from the video game ( see them all down below ). That one is kinda neat for spreading around. But hold on, Fathead didn't stop there! They also made two giant-sized "Wall Mural" Stickers that are very BIG and feature famous scenes from the game. So, overall, there are a ton of these things to choose from!

BATMAN AND ROBIN Makes an Appearance in RUSH Documentary - Beyond The Lighted Stage

Here's just a quick post to share this photo I found amusing. For 30+ years I have been a HUGE Fan of the Canadian Rock Band, RUSH. The other night I was watching a Documentary Movie about the Band called, "RUSH - Beyond The Lighted Stage". It covered their entire career, the ups and downs, all the way from the beginning. The cool thing is that they interview the band members all through out the film. This photo is from when they were talking to Lead Singer/ Bassist Getty Lee ( pictured on the left ). Check out his BATMAN AND ROBIN  T-Shirt, ha ha! I thought that was pretty cool. If you'd like to see the movie ( it's really good ) then just CLICK HERE!

BATMAN TOYS Make Awesome Christmas Gifts!!

OK, since today, in the United States, is what we call "Black Friday", I thought I'd do this post to share some fun new Batman Products that are out now and that you can order online at a site called KIMMY SHOP. This place mainly caters to Parents & Grandparents who are looking for Christmas gifts to give little kids. But the cool thing is that they actually offer a ton of cool unusual pieces of Bat-Merchandise!

The list includes: a Batman Pop-Up Game with incredible graphics of some major villains, a Batman Super 3-D Dartboard Set ( the Joker! ), and a Batman Stadium Camping Chair with graphics inspired by the BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD cartoon.

Here we have 2 fun items for school, a Batman Backpack and Lunchbox. Then sort of along the same line, is this cool Batman Carry-On Luggage ( perfect for Holiday traveling ), and the last 2 items are kinda weird I know, but they are "the Dark Knight", a Justice League Toothbrush and a serious Bat-Logo Thermos!

Like I said, all of these items are available at a fun place called KIMMY SHOP, just click here!

A SWEDISH BATMAN COLLECTION! Vintage Toys and Memorabilia

WOW! Batman is super-popular in Sweden! Here are some photos sent in to us by a Serious Bat-Fan who lives on the other side of the globe. His name is Andreas a.k.a. “The Texlexor”! He writes an excellent blog all about his obsession with collecting Vintage Batman Toys. It's called "A Swedish BATMAN Collection"!

Shown here are just a few examples of the extremely cool super-rare items he has found. The 1st couple of pics show an example of a 1960's Laderlappen Album ( hardback book ), both of them featuring some beautiful vintage graphics of Batman and Robin. Then we get to see an original 1967 BATMAN Movie Press Kit. These were sent to Cinemas for promotional purposes. Then, here's a Batman-inspired Fashion Shoot that appeared in a Swedish Music Magazine for Teens ( I love that dress! ).

OK, now, the photos start to feature some of the items created during the 1989 BATMAN Movie craze. Yes, we all remember how Hollywood went totally nuts with the merchandising of that film. But that's cool, that gives us Bat-Collectors a bunch of fun stuff to keep an eye out for!

Andreas has found a Paper Batman Mask, a Special Character Watch featuring The "Yellow-Oval Batman Logo", and even some cool ultra-rare Batman Orange-Flavored Soda Cans... Awesome!!

When you get the time, please be sure to visit his website for more amazing stuff. Just CLICK HERE!

Yeee Haaaw, It looks like somebody done made themselves a Custom Batman Batmobile, *bang *bang *bang! Check out these pics a friend sent to us of a car he spotted awhile back on eBay, their "UK Site" to be exact. Someone turned their 1998 S BMW 323i into a replica 1966 Batmobile. It's not perfect, but it's also a good try. Please be sure to click on the photos for larger, more detailed, pictures.

Foreign BATMAN MOVIE Packaging From Chile!!

Here's some really fun photos to look at and they're also some very hard to find items ( at least here in the USA ). Our friend Ruben, who lives in Chile, was nice enough to share a few items from his batman Movie Collection. The neat thing is that they are all "foreign". The names of the movies are another language ( other than English ) and that's very interesting.

The 1st pic is of an older item, a VHS Video Tape of the 1989 BATMAN Movie... in Spanish! Next up are some of the more modern-day DC UNIVERSE Batman-related DVD films. The packaging design is pretty much the same except for the different language, I totally love that! ( Thanks Ruben )

Photos - New Fisher Price DC SUPER FRIENDS Batman Figures

Here's a quick post to share some photos of some brand-new BATMAN Toys a Bat-Blog Fan recently spotted at Wal-Mart. These, of course, are Fisher Price DC SUPER FRIENDS Figures. It's really cool how they packaged a bunch of super-villains all together, I like that. This toy line, from Mattel, has been driving me crazy with how much merchandise they have created. I mean, I don't think it's possible to collect it all. They just keep cranking it out, LOL! ( Thanks Al from Georgia )

THE LAW OF SUPERHEROES - The Bat-Blog Book Review

I was recently contacted by a Book Publisher asking me if I would like to do a Book Review on a new book they were coming out with. They told me the title was, "THE LAW OF SUPERHEROES". They also said it contained a lot of examples that featured "Batman" so I might like it. Well, to my relief, I honestly loved it...Yes, the book is a really fun read! This book covers many legal issues that many superheroes would be faced with.

As a little kid, growing up reading a ton of comic books, I always wondered what would happen if Superheroes "were real" and what would happen after some battle where there was a ton of property damage and who would be responsible to pay for it? You remember these stories. Some Giant-Sized Monster would come to Earth and have a huge fight with Superman, or the Incredible Hulk, and they would destroy a few buildings in the process. Hey, who would have to pay for that? Ha Ha!

Well, this book answers that question and many many more. This book is based off a popular blog called "Law and the Multiverse".  At that website they are always covering many such legal issues. This new book was written by James Daly and Ryan Davidson, who are both not only major comic book fans, but they're real-life Attorneys as well. The book takes the idea of "What if Superheroes were real and how would they be affected by laws in the United States and abroad?".

For example: Batman works with the Gotham City Police Department, so if he captures the Joker and the Joker confesses to a crime, could the Joker's Attorneys later have the confession ruled inadmissible at trial because he wasn't given a Miranda warning? Or what if a hero kills another, but that second hero comes back from the dead. Would the first still be charged with murder? Can Bruce Wayne patent the Batmobile? Is Superman's use of x-ray vision or super-hearing an invasion of privacy?

The book goes into great depth about many questions like this and answers them in a very serious way. In most of their commentary they use real "Law Book" statutes and even present actual court cases that are similar to the issue. It's all very thought provoking and if you're studying law in school, then it's something you could use to learn more. But, I'd like to stress that even if you're only just a fan of reading comics then you'll enjoy reading this book too.

New BATMAN TOY - THE BAT Sky Busters Diecast Vehicle by MATCHBOX

Here's a brand-new Batman Toy that is in stores now and it's one that I never knew Mattel was coming out with until some very cool Bat-Blog Readers let me know all about it, Thanks guys!!

Matchbox has a toy line called "Sky Busters" and they recently added THE BAT to their new wave of vehicles. Of course this was the "Bat-Jet" used by Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Movie.

The scale is bigger than the 1:64 Hot Wheels edition but it's also not as big as the 1:50 Scale Hot Wheels either. Also, it doesn't have propellers like the 1:50 Hot Wheels does. Doe that make sense? Sorry, it's bigger than a regular Hot Wheels Car but NOT as big as their 1/50th Scale... whew!

Here's the info on the back:

Cool BATMAN TATTOO ART Photos - The Riddler and Scarecrow!

Check out this amazing Batman Tattoo Art a Fan of the Bat-Blog recently sent in to us. The artwork is really good! He just got a brand-new bat-tat of the RIDDLER and it sort of goes with the "Batman Villain" theme he's got going on. I mean, you can also see one of the SCARECROW which we know was done by Citris City Tattoos. ( I'm assuming they also did the Riddler one as well, not sure, sorry ). But either way these are all very well done. They're nice & sharp with great coloring/shading. You can also see part of TWO-FACE near his lower wrist. Hey! He's also representing the Batman on that arm as well.

CLICK HERE For More Photos of Batman Tattoo Art Tattoos of The Dark Knight Rises and Joker!

Brand-New Super Wacky BATMAN Merchandise

OK, I guess I have to explain the word, "wacky" in the title. Here's a couple of photos of some brand-new BATMAN products that just came out recently that are a little bit strange. Now, I don't totally hate these new items but just think they're kind of unusual. But hey, weird is good! Especially if you're a Collector because this kinda stuff is always fun.

Anyways, this 1st pic shows a Child's BATMAN Toddler Car Seat made by KIDSEmbrace. From what I hear these are being sold at Wal-Mart. They also have ones of Dora The Explorer, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Spongebob Squarepants. For more information please be sure to visit the company's Facebook page ( just click their company name up above ).

Next up is a fun GROW-A-BATMAN TOY that increases in size if you put it in water! It starts out as a 2 1/4" tall figure, then you soak it in water for 24 hours and BAMM! Then it is 6 times as BIG! These are pretty hard to find but I saw some the other night at SUPERHERO STUFF.

GOTHAM HIGH (2013) Dark Knight Batman Movie PARODY!

Ever wonder what high school was like for your favorite super heroes and villains in Gotham City?

Please be sure to check out this amazing GOTHAM HIGH ( 2013 ) Parody Movie Trailer created by Movieclips. Of course it was inspired by THE DARK KNIGHT Batman Trilogy and it features a ton of characters from the Nolan universe, that is, if they were all young and still in High School, ha ha ha! The editing is really clever & it's very well done. I mean, it will totally fool you into thinking it's real!!

Cliff's BATMAN COSTUME Photo with 1966 Batmobile Car!

Here's a quick post to share this very fun photo of our friend Cliff as he appeared at a recent event in Ohio ( Cincinnati Bengals game ) where they had some ultra-cool Batmobiles on display. Yes, that's Cliff standing next to the 1966 Batmobile wearing his 1989 Batman Movie Costume, AWESOME!

New DC SUPER FRIENDS MY BUSY BOOK and 12 FIGURES by Phidal

Awhile back we featured a brand-new BATMAN: MY BUSY BOOK Book we came across at Wal-Mart ( CLICK HERE! ) and then, just the other day, a Bat-Blog Reader was kind enough to share some related news and even sent us some cool pics!

Here are his photos of a book he found called DC SUPER FRIENDS: MY BUSY BOOK. As you can see it's basically the same format as the other one ( a large Book with Playmat & 12 mini-figures ) but this one features the characters from the Fisher-Price Action Figure toy line.
